WHO IS THIS VIDEO FOR?

This is video is meant for language teachers or language learners. English learners will need to be upper intermediate in order to follow comfortably.

WHAT IS IN THE VIDEO?

This is the first video for the Language Focused Learning Strand. This is the only strand that is not message-focused and involves the deliberate learning of language features like grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. This is often what a teacher helps with, but that is only one way. Leaners can also take control of this (although a teacher’s help is useful). In general there is a bit too much language focused learning in language courses. Transcription is what this video is about. You practice transcription by taking an audio recording and writing it out (controlling the recording as needed). It can help you raise awareness of different combinations of words and much more.
